What to Expect From Your First Personal Training Consultation
A first personal training consultation is a conversation about your goals, current routine, training history and available time. It should help both you and the coach decide whether the service is a suitable fit.
At EVOLVE in Dubai Marina, the consultation is the starting point for discussing the level of coaching you need. It is not a promise of a particular transformation or a substitute for a medical assessment.
Bring a clear problem, even if the goal is still vague
You do not need to arrive with a body-fat target or a complete training plan. Start with what you want to change.
Perhaps you keep stopping after a few weeks. Perhaps your workouts feel random, or work travel makes consistency difficult. You may want to build strength but feel unsure about technique.
A concrete example helps: “I can train before work twice a week, but I usually miss the third session” gives a coach more useful information than “I need to be more disciplined.”
Share what has and has not worked
Tell the coach about previous training, routines you enjoyed and plans you found difficult to maintain. Explain what changed when you stopped.
Be open about relevant injuries, symptoms, medical advice or restrictions. A coach may need you to speak with an appropriate healthcare professional before certain activities. That information helps define the boundaries of the coaching plan.
You do not need to send sensitive documents in advance unless the studio explains why they are needed and how to provide them securely.
Discuss the week around the workout
Your job, meals, family commitments and travel all affect how a program fits. Bring a realistic view of your schedule rather than the week you hope to have someday.
Ask about appointment availability, session length and what you are expected to do between visits. If evenings are your only option, confirm the practical arrangement before choosing a package.
Get specific about what is included
Before you commit, ask for the program inclusions in writing. Useful questions include:
How many sessions or what level of session access is included?
Who will coach me, and how are appointments arranged?
What does nutrition support involve?
How often is progress reviewed?
Which assessments are included?
What are the cancellation, payment and onboarding terms?
If a program includes health assessments, ask who carries them out, who interprets the results and what their limitations are. A test name alone does not explain its role in your care or coaching.
Leave with a next step you understand
A useful consultation should make the process clearer. You should know what the recommended program is intended to address, what participation requires and what remains your responsibility.
There is no need to choose the most comprehensive option automatically. The relevant choice is the one that matches your needs and the support you will use.
